Why is it that a place that gave birth to symbols of Chinese popular culture like Kung Fu movies became increasingly distant from the mainland after 1997? Despite Hong Kong’s donations exceeding 20 billion RMB for the Wenchuan earthquake, why did some later advocate not donating at all? How have Hong Kong’s social movements over the years influenced its people? Why do Hong Kongers jokingly refer to the Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying as the ‘father of Hong Kong independence’?
